We know firsthand what can happen when you open up a stage.

Some of what eventually became Echo Six Seven started right here at The Sand Bar — musicians hanging around, jumping on stage, playing together... and realizing something clicked.

That's really the idea behind OPEN ECHO.

Friday night, we're opening up the stage and inviting West Michigan's singers, songwriters and musicians to come make something happen.

Echo Six Seven will be your house band.

Bring a song. Bring your instrument. Bring your voice. Bring your band. Or just bring an idea.

Play solo. Sit in with us. Ask one of us to sit in with you. Try an original. Play something everybody knows. Jump on stage with somebody you've never played with before.

There isn't a script.
That's the point...

Hosted by Friends of Ludington State Park, a fall festival will include wagon rides by draft horses from Meadow Breeze Farms, live music from the Celtic group Selkie, apples, donuts, and cider. The event will be held at the Lake Michigan Beach House.

Saturday night, October 3, we're taking the Sand Bar back to a time when music wasn't something you simply listened to.
You experienced it.

Think late '60s. Early '70s. Psychedelic lights. Images moving across the room. Sound surrounding you. That period when bands like Pink Floyd were beginning to stretch the boundaries between a concert, a light show and something happening inside your own head.

That's the rabbit hole Sloth and I want to crawl down Saturday night.

He's bringing in his massive LED visual wall, setting up the decks and building an audio/visual journey around the music of Pink Floyd.

Not a cover band.

Not Karaoke.

Not somebody standing on stage trying to be Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd turned up loud.

Sloth behind the decks.
A wall of light and imagery.
And the Sand Bar transformed around it.

We don't entirely know what this is going to become yet.

And that's part of what makes it fun.

We're trying something neither of us has done here before.

Something a little strange. A little psychedelic. A little experimental.

Something that bends the ears...

the eyes...

and maybe the mind.

So grab a drink. Find a spot. Let the lights go down.
And see where the music takes you.
